Today’s excursion is nothing less than a mouthwatering dish filled with an exotic blend of adventure, scouting, and activity.
Starting with the impressive Roman city of Volubilis; and passing by the spiritual city of Moulay Idriss; and on to the historic Meknes, our journey will cover a big part of Morocco’s history and together we will discover it.
After breakfast the route winds through scenic countryside and traditional villages to the UNESCO-listed ancient Roman site of Volubilis.
Undoubtedly, this is the finest Roman ruin in Morocco, with remains dating back to the first century BC, and despite the huge damage caused by earthquakes and looting, Vollubilis still offers a wide range of well-preserved temples, mosaics, houses and public buildings that you can see amongst these ruins.
After Volubilis we drive to the venerable city of Moulay Idriss, is spread over two hills at the base of Mount Zerhoun.
The chief attraction; other than the mere charm of this town, are the panoramic views to be had of Vollubilis and the beautiful green landscape below.
From here the journey takes you up to Meknes the Moroccan Versailles; it was the capital of Morocco several hundred years ago, before it was relocated to Marrakech.
Although it lost this status, the city maintains its importance and seems pretty comfortable with its place in history.
Throughout this trip you will have the opportunity to visit the city’s most prominent sites and historic attractions such as “Bab Mansour” one of the city’s old huge gates, an impressive masterwork decorated with beautiful and detailed mosaics.
Not too far from Bab Mansour, stands the “Place Hedim” where to enjoy endless fun; it is similar but much smaller than Marrakech’s Jemaa el Fna square, and of course not less interesting.
Visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail; the city’s founder, “Habs Qara Prison” and many other mesmerizing landmarks.
